About HVMS
Henson Valley Montessori is an international, college preparatory school serving children between the ages of 2.5 and 15. Our country setting, with its warm, relaxed atmosphere, close-knit community of parents, children and educators, facilitates a program that balances joyful scholarship, independent thinking and research, curiosity, creativity and imagination.
Students at Henson Valley proceed through an exciting and challenging international course of study at a highly individualized pace. Our goal is to inspire within them a thirst for knowledge and culture in an atmosphere of kindness, respect, and intellectual inquiry that will not only prepare them for college but for life.
At Henson Valley, classes are communities of children and teachers who normally stay together for at least three years. The school sets high expectations, stressing the importance of careful work and pride in accomplishment at all levels. We help students set increasingly high goals for themselves so that they can take pride in the quality of their growing skills and knowledge. We want them to work right up to the very limit of their abilities.
In an era of rapid technological and social change, it is difficult if not impossible to predict the skills that our children will need when they reach maturity. Therefore, a real education must go beyond memorized facts. It must cultivate in students a true love of learning. So, that is why at HVMS, our students are not just presented with the right answers for them to memorize and forget; we try and ask the right questions, challenging them to discover the answers for themselves. Learning this way then becomes its own reward and each success fuels the desire to discover something new.
